STANDARD POLICY

1. FREE ENTERPRISE (’97)

WHEREAS: The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association has historically supported and advocated free enterprise; and

WHEREAS: There have been attempts to influence the business structure of livestock agriculture through law and governmental regulations; and

WHEREAS: The distortion of the natural dynamics of supply and demand by Government have produced costly side effects.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association resist legislation that goes beyond stewardship responsibilities in regulating production livestock agriculture.

2. OFFICIAL SPORT OF SOUTH DAKOTA (’01)

WHEREAS: South Dakota’s number one industry is agriculture, dating back to the early settlers. The state is blessed to have some of the richest grasslands in the U.S., which set the base for cattle and cowboys and the beginning of the sport of Rodeo; and

WHEREAS: Rodeo is a family sport in which all members of the family can participate regardless of age.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: The SDSGA endorses Rodeo as the official sport of the state of South Dakota.

3. No Political Endorsement (’02)

Whereas: Membership in the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association is voluntary; and

Whereas: The purposes of the Association are clearly related to the livestock industry; and

Whereas: The interests of the industry often require education of and support from policy makers of different political affiliations.

Therefore Be It Resolved: The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association will not endorse any political candidate.
